Abstract

The oral tradition heritage of Malay pantun not only possesses high aesthetic value but also contains moral and social values related to local wisdom. Initially, pantun were used in sacred activities and later evolved and thrived in the digital era. The harmonious structure of pantun reflects linguistic proficiency, semantic harmony, and the local wisdom of Malay society. Many previous scholars have discussed pantun from various perspectives.

The development of information technology has brought pantun to the public and the digital realm. In the digital era, pantun are widely disseminated through social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, allowing anyone to create and disseminate pantun. Contemporary pantun shared on social media often go viral. This paper highlights the journey of pantun from sacred spaces to the digital world. The study focuses on the harmony of structure, word choice, and moral, social, and educational values.

Unlike traditional pantun, which maintain strong and valuable patterns and structures, contemporary pantun prioritize virality over aesthetic quality and the function of pantun itself. To ensure the sustainability of pantun, it is essential to strengthen traditional institutions, provide learning materials in formal education, and organize workshops and festivals. Thus, pantun can continue to evolve as a creative Malay cultural heritage with aesthetic and meaningful value in the modern context.
